UPDATE: 1/14/99 - FROM THE HEAD OFFICE!! First Mike, now ME!! My fellow sistahs and brothas "COME INTO MY WHIRL" tomorrow, as I make a major announcement. No, I can't be like Mike and retire just yet.....but the long awaited information on the forthcoming Poets Niche Offline Party in Hotlanta, Georgia, August 5th-8th will be released tomorrow. Details from my press conference will be viewed via your EMAIL tomorrow evening. Between all of the microphones and the cameras flashing tomorrow, I'll give you all the information you have been awaiting. The only thing I ask is that once this information is received, start acting on it IMMEDIATELY!! You will receive a lot of information with DEADLINE DATES. Please adhere to these dates!! Let's make this a stress-free event, before, during, and after, okay? As of today you now have 6-1/2 months to get those thighs firm and those tummies tucked to show-off those 6-packs this summer. Get in the living room this weekend and start learning and practicing the latest dance steps, however if you feel like packing some of those old skool moves to bring with you, we won't be mad at ya! Start searching catalogs and magazines for the latest in swimming attire, the latest in hairstyles, etc.....this event comes with a "get your groove back" guarantee. No money is going to have to be refunded -- I'm making sure of that by planning every detail as carefully as possible!! Until tomorrow......... PAMELA BARNES ========================================================== 12/98 As they say in my home state of Louisiana, where the party people at, where they at? Right now they are everywhere, but this summer of 1999 they will be TOGETHER!!! This summer '99, it's most definitely ON! Why? The First Annual Poets Niche Offline Party, (A Party With A Purpose) -- a gathering of African American Poets across the United States who converse with each other via email. This event will serve as an opportunity for all of us to actually meet our "cyber-sistahs and brothas" face to face, share poetry/ideas, and just plain "hang" and have a great time in HotLanta, Georgia -- our host city for '99!! The (tentative) official "Party HeadQuarters" will be the gorgeous downtown hotel Hyatt Regency on Peachtree Street. (The Hyatt was selected because it's in the heart of downtown HotLanta, and convenient (in walking/short cab distance to everything). Festivities are scheduled to take place Thursday (month/day) and continue through Sunday (month/day). I would like to hear from you to determine how many people will be attending and for how many days (hopefully, Thursday-Sunday). Once I am armed with this information, I will start making arrangements with this hotel to accommodate you. I feel by getting an idea of how any rooms we need to acquire will allow us to obtain and pass a nice savings along to everybody! Remember, buying in bulk always saves money, and hotel rooms are no different! I hope this event will be one of the most memorable times we will ever have, with many more to come! If you are convinced that this party is for you, look for the forthcoming survey coming ! to you this week. Complete it and send it to me via (e:mail) no later than December 5th! MO' INFO!! The (tentative) HotLanta'99 Itinerary includes: Thursday Evening: (7p.m.) Meet & Greet Sign-In Session/Cocktail Hour - Thursday Nite (Hospitality Suite) Friday: Lunch (TBA) Grayline Cultural Sightseeing Bus Tour Dinner (Crab House Restaurant) - Excellent seafood (remember, I'm from Louisiana) Peachtree Street Midnite Romp (UnderGround HotLanta) Saturday: Brunch (TBA) Saturday Nite FunkJazz Kafe' (Special guest Poet's Niche!!, who else??) WHAT IS ...THE FUNKJAZZ KAFeĻ (Check them out further on the web) The FunkJazz Kafe is more than the festival experienced at the turn of each season. It is an attitude which inspires and explores feelings of creative expression. Its purpose is to spearhead a vibrational rhythmic shift through music. But it is more than music. It's about change. The FunkJazz Kafe was formed to create an environment conducive to the growth and development of the progressive fusion of music, poetry, and visual arts in the undergrounds of cultural cities nationwide. Held in settings that are comfortable and festive, people of a broad demographic fill the atmosphere with laughter and subtle socializing. To encourage interaction, the festival often features the experience of a healing suite (providing massages and facials), an interactive art gallery, visual exhibits, a surround sound home theater, virtual reality rides, internet cafe, poetry room and an open floor for dancing. Vendors fill the marketplace with foods, apparels, and jewelry. Live still models display emerging fashions and artwork is created inside the FunkJazz Kafe by some of the most well known visual artist and designers of our time. Spearheaded by founder E. Jason Orr (BLACK-OWNED/OPERATED), the FunkJazz Kafe festival is the reflection of a progressive cultural renaissance. It's stage is host to a variety of musicians, recording artists, poets, rappers, soul/jazz and reggae singers backed by a house band of high caliber musicians (The Chronicle) & interacting DJ (Kemit), a band solely responsible for rejuvenating Atlanta's emerging and thriving live jazz/ funk/ acid jazz/ hip hop scene. Artists who have performed with The Chronicle & DJ Kemit include: Me'Shell Ndegeocello, George Howard, Vinx, Dionne Farris, Caron Wheeler, Doug E. Fresh, Sonny Emory (Earth, Wind & Fire), Japanese superstar Toshi Kubota, Joi, Dallas Austin, Laurn*a, Goodie MoB, the Escovedo Family and poet Sonja Marie to name a few. This is a generation of talent that is creating its own spin to the arts rather than following the already existing paths. *I think this will be a great opportunity not only "show off our stuff" creatively to our fellow poets and HotLantians, but also to promote/sell our book "Come Into Our Whirl"!! Soul Food Sunday: Sunday Farewell Brunch (Beautiful Restaurant - Auburn Avenue) - Delicious, "Slap Yo Mama" Soul Food cuisine. You've heard about it...so in 1999, make sure you don't miss it! More to Come!! +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Pamela Barnes - Coordinator email address - (PRB@mdbinfonet.com) or (mygroove@yahoo.com) snail P.O. Box 601082, Dallas, Texas 75360-1082 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ From: Pamela Barnes Date: Tue, Nov 23, 1998 Subject: RE: You Are Most Creatively Invited.... To: BlacheMD; Poets Niche 1; Poets Niche 2; Poets Niche 3 Hello everyone on this short week for most, if not all of us..... Here's another brief survey: 1 - Although I had not asked yet, but many have already told me that the first weekend in August would be excellent for the Offline Party. I checked with the Hyatt this morning and that weekend is open (so far). Thursday, August 5th arrival (by 6pm) and Sunday, August 8th departure. IF THIS IS AN OPEN WEEKEND FOR YOU....let me know ASAP!! (no later than 12/5/98) 2 - Discounts come in numbers, so advise me of HOW MANY WILL BE IN YOUR PARTY? This is for the hotel only, as I am letting everyone handle their own travel discounts. If quite a number of you are coming from a selected city on a selected day, check with the airline/travel agency for discounts. It never hurts to ask, and ask again, BOTH the airline and the travel agency!! Try to utilize a black travel agency, as we tend to try to look out for each other. 3 - Speaking of looking out for each other....I already got a "hook-up" (yall know we love hook-ups) via the Atlanta Black Heritage Bus Tour. I told her about US and she stated that she would give us the "Family Reunion discount" on the tickets.....regularly priced at $30, now $20. I'm using that same terminology "family reunion" for the hotels as well. I'm sure some of us look alike, at least that's what they say. (laugh) As far as I am concerned, all black people are related!! 4 - All in favor of T-Shirts and Caps, say "I". No need to send sizes... .I'm making it simple "One Size Fits All". My brother and Moni's son (two up and coming artists in New York) will be commissioned to design our shirts and caps for us. We're keeping it in the family!! 5 - I'm sure everyone will be taking pictures over the holidays....and with the idea of designing a souvenir/memory book from our adventures in HotLanta, I wanted to include everyone's picture with a bit of interesting data/facts about each of us to be a part of the book. I will need a good, clear headshot or full body shot (no nudies, please) to be sent to me eventually, so start striking some poses. I am also going to request the Mayor of HotLanta to send us a letter of proclamation declaring that weekend "Poet's Niche Weekend", to be a part of the book, too. This information (picture and data) will be requested from you at a later date. I'll send you your data sheet after Thanksgiving to be completed and returned to me via snail mail at: P.O. Box 601082, Dallas, Texas 75360-1082. Make sure you keep up with all of your e:mails regarding the Offline Party! One change has been made....the Soul Food Farewell Brunch. I overlooked the fact that many will be leaving on Sunday and the brunch will conflict with the hotel's check-out time, so the "soul food" will take place Saturday, instead of Sunday. Start saving, dieting, energizing NOW for in just a few months, we'll be turning the town red in HotLanta!!
